Until I began studying under William St George (now deceased) in 2012, I could best be described as an art enthusiast/hobby painter. My gratitude to William St George is unbounded, as he did more than just help me refine my technique; he set me free from a conventional understanding of how color works.
Part of his mentorship involved my learning technique from both European and American Impressionists as well as the Ashcan school of painters. George Bellows, Childe Hassam and William Glackens all paint with a vigor and joy that I also seek to cultivate. John Singer Sargent, Georgia O'Keefe and Mary Cassatt also inspire me.
Since 2021, it has been my privilege to study under Vincent Crotty, an Irish born modern impressionist who has transformed my understanding of how light works and can be expressed in both outdoor and ambient settings. When I am not painting, my delight in playing with color informs my jewelry making, where I work with semi precious materials to create pieces meant to inspire and uplift the wearer.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
With each painting, my goal is to capture the energy of a scene I want my viewers to share with me. Light, color, brushwork and paint as a sculptural tool all figure into each image that I craft.
I paint primarily with oil because of the way it allows for multiple layers of color and texture to be built upon a canvas. While paintings may seem two dimensional, my goal is to access rich textures through unconventional application of paint alongside conventional brushwork to invite the viewer to experience the intensity of each color.
I have exhibited work at The Aisling Gallery, Hingham Art and framing and South Street Gallery (all in MA) as well as the Glimpse Gallery online. In 2019, I was named the Greeneville TN artist of the year. .
